What is a PDO Facial Thread Lift?
Thread lift treatments are a minimally invasive procedure using absorbable PDO threads (Polydioxanone threads – a medical grade thread used for suturing for over 30 years) which are broken down naturally by the body over a short period of time. PDO Thread Lifts are designed to rejuvenate, regenerate and improve your facial structure, giving you the same benefits as a facelift but without the need for surgery and general anaesthetic.
How does the PDO Thread Lift work?
The threads are made of soluble PDO (Polydioxanone) which is a material that has confirmed clinical data, are fully predictable and have been used in medicine for more than 30 years. PDO threads have been used on 10 of millions of patients, mainly in surgery, and have been used in facial aesthetics since 2008 with no reported adverse reactions. Treatments using PDO threads are a safe and extremely effective way to both prevent and treat lack skin with loss of volume and density. Research has shown that PDO threads have a unique feature that cause a mild tissue response, stimulating the production of new collagen and relaxing targeted muscles and tendons. PDO threads also stimulate the synthesis of elastin and hyaluronic acid deep within the skin, both of which are vital for keeping the skin looking plump and youthful.
The PDO thread is inserted into the skin through a very fine needle or cannula creating a “frame” to support the surrounding tissue and new collagen bundles which will be formed. Depending on the area to be treated, the threads are inserted either just below the surface of the skin or into the subcutaneous fat layer. Due to advanced techniques now used there is no need for the skin to be cut and so the risk of scaring is eliminated. A lifted appearance will be seen immediately following the treatment; however, the results will improve in the following 21 days and continue over the following months as the PDO threads stimulates the neo collagenases, which in turn produces new bundles of collagen. The overall texture of the skin will also be improved as it becomes thicker, tighter and firmer and fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed away. Greater levels of hydration will also be noticeable.
Different lengths and thicknesses of thread are used for different areas of the face. Short strands of threads are used to treat fine lines around the eyes and across the top lip, while thicker strands are used to lift sagging jowls or across the forehead as an alternative to Botulinum Toxin (Botox) and to lift heavy eye lids. If required, local anaesthetic can be applied but generally this is not required. The threads are naturally absorbed by the body in six to eight months although the effect of the treatment can last for up to three years. Periodic touch ups may be required but will ensure results are maintained
Which areas can be treated with the PDO Thread lift?
PDO Thread lift are extremely versatile and can be used anywhere on the face, neck and body for a variety of concerns, producing results easily comparable to surgical procedures and face lifts. PDO threads can treat vertical and horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, sagging brows, drooping cheeks with loss of volume, pronounced nasolabial folds (nose to mouth) and marionette lines (corners of mouth to chin) sagging jawline, neck bands, wrinkles on, around and under the chin and the decolletes . They cannot remove excess skin.
What results can I expect from the PDO Thread Lift?
PDO Threads will give the skin an immediate lift, erase fine lines and wrinkles and give an overall natural improvement in the appearance of your skin. After approximately 10-14 days, the process of the body’s natural protein synthesis begins and continues over a period 6 to 8 months with results lasting 2 to 3 years, keeping the texture of the skin smooth and supple. Depending on the area treated, there will be a visible lift and tightening effect.
