What is a chemical peel?

What is a chemical peel?

There are many misconceptions surrounding chemical peeling – it’s safety and understanding of how they work as well as the benefits being amongst the highest. Not all chemical peels result in layers of skin being removed. Light chemical peels are not designed to “remove” surface layers or “peel the skin”. They are formulated in a gel consistency and contain peptides, amino acids and vitamins to both nourish and “feed” the skin. Gel formulas lay on the skin’s’ surface and penetrate at a slower rate allowing for the ingredients to work on the surface layers. Medium to deep chemical peels are formulated in a liquid and will penetrate the skin upon contact. These formulas generally induce a peeling of the damaged surface dead layers. Either of these formula do not cause “acid burns” and they do not damage the skin.  The skin they are treating is in fact dead cells and only serves in making the skin look dull, damaged and aged. Chemical peels are a safe and highly effective way to revitalise the skin. They are effective at reducing damage caused by overexposure to the sun, removing unsightly pigmentation, acne scars and reverse the signs of ageing. Removing these layers of dead cells will reveal a healthier and  more vibrant skin.

How do skin peels work?

How Do Skin Peels Work?

Skin Peels work by the application of a chemical with a lowered p.h to remove dead skin cells, and encourage new cells to grow and move to the surface. This results a fresher, smoother and more radiant skin. These treatments are widely used all over the world to treat skin problems such as fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, hyper-pigmentation, and sun damage. Results can transform your skin so whatever your skin dilemma, there’s sure to be a peel to suit.

We offer a wide variety of chemical peels all from leading manufactures, each one specifically prescribed according to the needs of your skin, the extent of  damage and the desired results. Chemical peels work by gently lifting dead skin cells with a non-toxic chemical solution to remove unwanted surface layers of dead and damaged skin.  By removing the damaged skin cells the production of collagen and elastin is sped up revealing a blemish free, healthier, younger looking complexion. Treatments are pain-free with little if any down time.  Our experienced and highly trained skin experts will both advise and guide you on the right peeling treatment for you with a specifically tailored treatment plan to achieve optimum results.

How will I feel during my skin peel treatment?

How will I feel during my skin peel treatment?

All peels are applied in a similar manner. Depending on the peel applied you can expect to feel anything from a slight prickly sensation to a bearable heat. Any discomfort felt resolves almost immediately.  Your comfort both during and after treatment is a priority to us and this will be considered during the entire treatment.

Light chemical peeling treatments are so gentle that they can be used without any risks of complications on the delicate areas around the eyes and lips and very little sensation is felt.  With deeper peels these are a little more intense although bearable.  Application is an extremely quick process and they are applied in a controlled manner to minimise any anxiety or unpleasant sensation during the treatment.
